Merge connects young adults who are ready to work with employers who need reliable entry-level talent in the trades. Apprentices earn, learn, and move into real jobs in the most in-demand fields across Los Angeles and Orange County.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

A direct bridge from training to a career in the trades

The Merge Apprenticeship Training Program connects young adults who are ready to work with employers who need reliable entry-level talent. Participants earn industry-recognized training and hands-on experience across five high-demand trades. Compensation and transportation support help ensure equitable access and strong retention from day one.

To enroll, participants first complete 50 hours of MergeEdge, Merge’s career readiness and coaching program. From there, they move into trade-specific training and on-the-job experience with partner employers.

APPRENTICESHIP TRACKS

Choose your trade

Each track builds practical, industry-recognized skills and leads directly into paid on-the-job training with employer partners.

🏗️

General CONSTRUCTION

Learn site safety, tool use, demolition, framing, and basic carpentry. Builds a versatile base for roles on residential and commercial construction crews.

ROLES:
CONSTRUCTION CREW, SITE LABORER, FRAMER

SOLAR ENERGY

Train on solar panel installation, rooftop safety, and system layout. Prepares you to join solar and clean energy crews in the field across California.

ROLES:
SOLAR INSTALLER, CLEAN ENERGY TECHNICIAN

HVAC

Get exposure to heating and cooling systems, ductwork, and basic maintenance. Leads into helper roles on HVAC install and service teams.

ROLES:
HVAC HELPER, INSTALL AND SERVICE SUPPORT

Plumbing

Learn to work with pipes, fixtures, and water systems while building strong safety habits. Graduates support plumbers on installs, service calls, and maintenance.

PLUMBER’S HELPER, MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Electrical

Build experience with basic wiring, circuits, tools of the trade, and safety. Graduates support licensed electricians on new installs, repairs, and upgrades.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Two phases. One career pathway

The program is designed in two connected phases. Classroom training builds foundational skills. On-the-job training puts those skills to work alongside experienced professionals.

PHASE 1

Classroom training

8 weeks | 80 hours

Instructor-led learning combining hands-on practice with virtual reality simulation. Training takes place at the Workforce Training Center or at employer partner sites.

PHASE 2

On-the-job training

2,000 hours | paid

Paid on-the-job training at active job sites alongside experienced professionals. Upon successful completion, participants are eligible to move into full-time roles with partner employers.

HOW TO ENROLL

Four steps to get started

Before enrolling in the apprenticeship program, all participants must first complete 50 hours of MergeEdge, Merge’s career readiness and coaching program.

STEP ONE

Complete MergeEdge

Complete 50 hours of MergeEdge, Merge’s career readiness and coaching program. This is required before apprenticeship enrollment.

STEP TWO

Submit your application

Complete the apprenticeship application to secure a spot in the queue. The application takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

STEP THREE

Complete a virtual interview

A virtual interview follows your application. Successful applicants receive an invitation to attend an informational session about the program.

STEP FOUR

Enroll with your local AJCC

After your informational session, enroll with your local America’s Job Center of California to unlock additional training, wage, and support services.

AJCC ENROLLMENT STEPS

Connect with AJCC

Connect with your local AJCC or speak with a Merge staff member to be referred. You will receive an overview of services and a list of required documents.

Complete orientation and eligibility

Attend an AJCC orientation, complete intake forms, and submit verification documents so staff can confirm eligibility for funded training and support.

Create your training plan

Work with an AJCC career specialist and Merge to select your apprenticeship track, build a training plan, and confirm your start date.
